Alexander Lukashenko is confident that Belarus and Russia will withstand Western sanctions

11.03.2022. Belarus and Russia will withstand Western sanctions "to spite the enemies." This was stated by Alexander Lukashenko before the meeting with Vladimir Putin in Moscow. At the meeting itself, Lukashenko called the sanctions "Western swinishness" and offered to unite in the CSTO and the EAEU, Sputnik reports. Today, March 11, a meeting of Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin is taking place in Moscow. It discusses topical issues of bilateral relations, the development of union cooperation, economic cooperation under sanctions pressure, as well as the situation in the region and in Ukraine.

Before the meeting, journalists asked Lukashenko whether Russia and Belarus would be able to withstand the sanctions.

"How can we stand it! To spite the enemies," he is sure.

At the very same meeting, Lukashenko said that sanctions are a time of opportunities, and in order to forget that we have them, we need to unite in the CSTO and the EAEU.

During the meeting with Putin, Lukashenko said that "we did not start this war in Ukraine, our conscience is clear. "According to him, the Ukrainian side is "pushing away" from the safety of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

Alexander Lukashenko also said that he brought to the meeting a map that reveals plans for an attack on Belarus. "Ukraine would have attacked Belarus if not for a preemptive strike from Russia," he said.

Putin believes that attempts to restrain the development of Russia and Belarus have always been made, so the countries will overcome these difficulties, and in 2021 the trade turnover between Belarus and Russia increased by more than a third. As an example, he cited the USSR, saying that the union has always lived under sanctions and achieved success.

Regarding the situation in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin noted that there are certain positive developments in the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations.

Recall that yesterday, on March 10, negotiations were held between the Foreign Ministers of Russia and Ukraine Sergey Lavrov and Dmitry Kuleba, during which the parties agreed to look for ways to solve humanitarian problems, but did not resolve the issue of a ceasefire.
