Belarus and Russia expect to stimulate trade through new projects

15.09.2020. The presidents of Belarus and Russia, Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin, will instruct the heads of key industry enterprises to start discussing specific projects in order to intensify economic interaction. The press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov told reporters about this following the talks between the heads of state in Sochi, TASS reports. "The heads of state agreed to intensify the work of the intergovernmental commission, to intensify work through the departments and also, what is remarkable, through the key industry enterprises," the press secretary said.

According to him, for this, an order will be given to the heads of the relevant ministries and departments, as well as the heads of key industry enterprises to enter into direct contact and begin discussing specific projects in order to stop the downward trend in trade between the two countries.

Dmitry Peskov also said that it is too early to discuss the possibility of creating joint ventures in the framework of intensifying trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. "It is impossible to talk about this now, it is rather a consequence of the intensification of trade and economic cooperation," he said.

In addition, the presidents agreed to continue work on the preparation of the next Russian-Belarusian forum of regions. "There are plans to hold this event at the end of September, but the dates will be specified, because the dialogue between the regions is extremely important for the two presidents," the Kremlin spokesman said. According to him, for this, the presidents also agreed to organize a meeting between individual regional leaders in terms of preparing the forum. "Such a meeting will be organized in the near future," Dmitry Peskov specified.
